Sustainable Business Network Member Logo

Since opening in 1982, Poppies, Enniskerry has been known for its homemade Irish food and hospitality. Under the ownership of Peter and Fiona Norton since 2001, Poppies has evolved from a small tearoom to a sustainability leader in Ireland’s food service sector. This family owned sustainable café is set in the beautiful foothills of the Wicklow mountains.

Our biggest sustainability achievement so far is winning the SEAI Energy Award within the SME Category.

Member’s Sustainability Mission Statement

At Poppies Café, our mission is to operate responsibly and sustainably by reducing our environmental impact, supporting local and ethical suppliers, protecting biodiversity, and engaging positively with our community – ensuring a healthier future for generations to come.

Sustainability Measures To Date

At Poppies Café, sustainability is part of how we do business every day. Since 2023, we have reduced our carbon footprint from 20.7 to 15.7 tonnes CO₂e through investment in solar thermal and solar PV systems, alongside an energy-efficient air-to-water heat pump. We prioritise local suppliers and responsibly sourced products, including Rainforest Alliance–certified tea, carbon-neutral coffee, and SDAS-certified dairy. We actively reduce waste through recycling and composting, conserve water with efficient fixtures, support biodiversity through the All-Ireland Pollinator Plan, and proudly give back to our local Wicklow community.
